Intrafamilial transmission of hepatitis C virus.
Family members of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected hemodialysis patients had a high rate (8.1%) of HCV infection and were often infected by the same genotype of HCV as the renal patients. Renal patients who had a longer history of hemodialysis or more frequent arteriovenous shunt replacement posed a higher risk to their household contacts, especially to their primary-care providers at home.
متن کاملSexual transmission of hepatitis C virus infection
Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the cause of almost all cases of parenterally transmitted non-A, non-B viral hepatitis (NANBH). HCV is an RNA virus, unrelated to the hepatitis viruses A, B, D, or E; it was first identified in 1989. Although most infections become chronic, and it may lead to chronic liver disease, most patients with HCV infection are asymptomatic. The predominant modes of...
متن کاملSexual transmission of hepatitis C virus.
Sexual transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) occurs; however, to what extent is still unclear. In this presentation relevant data from the literature concerning the following key issues will be presented: presence of HCV in the seminal fluid and vaginal secretions; presence of HCV infection in sexually promiscuous individuals; presence of HCV infection among sexual partners to HCV-infected in...
متن کاملEpidemiological and virological analysis of couples infected with hepatitis C virus.
BACKGROUND If transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection through parenteral exposure is well documented, sexual transmission of HCV is still debated. AIMS To perform extensive epidemiological and virological analysis in 24 couples in which each spouse was anti-HCV positive in order to delineate more precisely potential sexual transmission of HCV. PATIENTS Twenty four couples in which...
متن کاملRisk of Hepatitis C Virus transmission Following Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy
Background: Hepatitis C virus infection (HCV) is a main health problem in our country. It is thought that the transmission of hepatitis C virus (HCV) through the endoscopic procedures is a rare event. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of conventional disinfection in the transmission of HCV. Materials and methods: A prospective study, comprising 456 consecutive upper gastrointestin...
